What to Expect:
From the moment the sun sets over the Rockies, you’ll be immersed in a hands-on, educational stargazing experience. Our expert astronomer guide will lead you on a journey through the night sky, using several large telescopes and a green laser pointer to point out constellations and planets. You’ll see celestial wonders up close. Depending on the night and season you will see the Moon’s craters, planets like Jupiter or Saturn (season permitting), distant star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies millions of light-years away. Along the way, you’ll hear fun stories and folklore about the stars, learn how to navigate the sky, and even get to operate a telescope yourself. Questions are welcome anytime – we love curiosity and make the tour interactive and engaging.

We provide everything you need for a comfortable night under the stars. No astronomy experience is needed – we’ll guide you every step of the way. Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where you can kick back in provided chairs, gaze through the telescopes, and soak up the beauty of Boulder’s dark sky.
Who It’s For:
Our Boulder astronomy tour is for everyone! Families with kids, couples looking for a romantic night, solo travelers, friend groups, science enthusiasts, and total beginners – all are welcome. The content is all-ages, though we’ve found it’s best suited for children old enough to enjoy stargazing (around 5+ years, as it is a late night program and little ones may snooze through the excitement).
We tailor our storytelling and explanations to the group, so both novices and amateur astronomers will have a great time. If you have a birthday, anniversary, or are celebrating a special occasion, let us know – we love helping you make extraordinary memories under the stars!
Accessibility & Safety {#accessibility-safety}
No hiking is required to enjoy this stargazing adventure – the viewing site is at a flat, easily accessible trailhead just outside the city. You’ll be able to drive right up and park at the meeting spot. We accommodate all ability levels: if you or someone in your group has mobility challenges or uses a wheelchair, just inform us in advance and we’ll have an accessible telescope setup ready. During the show, we provide camp chairs so you can sit comfortably for the talk and sky tour. A step stool is available to help smaller guests reach the telescope eyepiece, and our team can adjust telescope height/position as needed so everyone gets a view.
Safety and comfort are top priorities. We only operate on clear-night weather and constantly monitor conditions – if skies are too cloudy, we’ll reschedule or refund (see our flexible weather policy in the FAQ). We use special red LED flashlights at the site to preserve night vision, and ask that guests avoid using white-light flash or phone lights during the observation (your eyes will thank you!). The area is safe and family-friendly; however, please note that this is a sober event – no alcohol or drugs are allowed on site to ensure a fun, focused experience for everyone. A basic restroom (pit toilet) is available at the trailhead for your convenience, with hand sanitizer and wipes provided. (Tip: It can get chilly after dark, so dress in layers – you can always bundle up with our supplied blankets and even hand warmers on colder nights.)
Itinerary & Highlights {#itinerary}
Here’s a snapshot of what our Boulder night sky tour includes:
Sunset Meetup: Tours typically begin at sunset (exact start time varies by season). You’ll meet your astronomer guide at our designated open-space site as the sky transitions from day to night. Enjoy the colorful sunset over the mountains – a beautiful bonus before the stars appear.
Introduction & Twilight Viewing: We kick off with a warm welcome and a brief orientation. As twilight falls, you’ll get introduced to our telescopes and maybe take a peek at the first visible objects (often a crescent Moon or bright planets) while there’s still a little light. This is a great time to ask initial questions and get comfortable with the equipment.
Laser-Guided Star Tour: Once darkness sets in, your guide will conduct an interactive astronomy talk (about 30-45 minutes) and laser-guided tour of the constellations. Picture yourself finding the North Star, tracing the outline of Ursa Major or Orion, and hearing the ancient myths behind them. We’ll also point out any visible planets, the Milky Way band (seasonal), satellites passing overhead, or even occasional shooting stars!
Telescope Exploration: The highlight of the night – viewing through the telescopes. Over roughly 45 minutes, you’ll get to observe an array of celestial objects up close. We typically showcase a mix of crowd favorites: perhaps the rings of Saturn or Jupiter’s moons, deep-sky gems like the Orion Nebula, star clusters glittering like cosmic jewels, or distant galaxies. Everyone will have time at the eyepiece to soak in the view. We’ll also show you how to aim a telescope and let those interested try out directing it to a target. (Don’t worry – we’re there to help!)
Q&A and Wrap-Up: We conclude with an informal Q&A session (~15 minutes) – though you’re encouraged to ask questions throughout the tour. By now, you might be brimming with new questions about the universe, and we love that! After the main program, you’re welcome to linger a bit as we start packing up equipment – many guests stay to get a few extra gazes at the heavens or to chat about what we saw. We won’t rush you out; we want you to leave truly satisfied and starry-eyed.
Tour Highlights and Amenities: Throughout the evening, we strive to make your experience as enriching and enjoyable as possible. You’ll be using our premium telescopes (we bring multiple types, so you might peek through a big Dobsonian reflector and a computerized telescope in one night). We also provide extras that set us apart: a laser pointer for sky navigation, visual aids like a star map, and even some cool props – for example, you might get to hold a real meteorite or see a scale model demonstrating planetary distances. We’ll have snacks and bottled water on hand (free of charge) in case you get the munchies while stargazing. Every guest receives a little souvenir at the end – such as an astronomy-themed postcard or sticker – as a thank-you for joining us on this cosmic journey. All you really need to bring is your sense of wonder (and maybe a jacket)!

Pricing & Booking {#pricing}
Tour Price: The Boulder Night Sky Tour is $42 per person for the standard 2-hour group tour. This flat rate applies to adults and kids alike (children under 2 years old can attend for free with a parent/guardian). Your ticket includes all equipment, guidance, and amenities – there are no extra rental fees. We even throw in the snacks and souvenirs at no charge, as mentioned above. It’s a great value for a rich astronomy experience!
Discounts: We believe everyone should get a chance to learn about the universe, so we offer a few discounts and deals. For example, kids ages 2–12 are half price, and we occasionally run promo codes for students, veterans, or off-peak nights. Check our Prices & Discounts page for current offers (such as a small online booking discount for the curious coupon-hunters out there). All discounts must be applied at booking time. If you have a larger group or a special request, please contact us – we can sometimes arrange a custom tour or group rate. Our goal is to make this experience accessible and affordable without compromising quality.
How to Book: Online booking is the only way to reserve your spot – we do not accept on-site payments or walk-in attendees. To book, simply click the “Book Now” button (or visit our online booking page) and select your desired date on the calendar. Tours are offered most clear nights of the week, year-round. If a date isn’t listed, it may be fully booked or unavailable – but you can always email us to ask about adding an extra tour if you have a specific date in mind. During booking, you’ll provide the number of guests and payment (we accept credit cards, PayPal, or you can arrange to pay cash on arrival with prior notice). Once booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details, including a reminder of what to bring and how to find us. Book early if you can – group size is kept small (usually 7 guests max per tour) to ensure everyone gets ample telescope time, and popular dates (especially summer weekends, new moon nights, and meteor shower dates) can fill up fast.
