What to Expect:
As evening settles over the Rocky Mountains, you’ll take part in a hands-on, educational stargazing experience from the Imperial Deck at Beaver Run Resort. A professional astronomer will guide you across the night sky using several large telescopes and a green laser pointer to identify stars, planets, and constellations.
What we observe changes throughout the year. Depending on the date and conditions, you may see the Moon’s craters, planets such as Jupiter or Saturn, colorful double stars, distant star clusters, glowing nebulae, satellites, and galaxies millions of light-years away. You might even catch a shooting star.
Along the way, you’ll hear stories and folklore connected to the constellations, learn how to navigate using the stars, and have opportunities to operate a telescope yourself. Questions are welcome throughout the program. We love curiosity and make each tour interactive, approachable, and engaging.
No previous astronomy experience is needed. We provide the telescopes, red lights, seating, blankets, step stools, and other equipment used during the program. All you need to bring is your curiosity and plenty of warm clothing.

The content is appropriate for all ages, although we generally find the experience works best for children around age five and older who are comfortable participating in a 1 hour 45 minutes outdoor evening program.
We adjust our explanations and storytelling to each group, so both first-time stargazers and experienced amateur astronomers can enjoy the evening. Accessibility & Safety:
No hiking is required. The program takes place on the Imperial Deck at Beaver Run Resort, offering convenient access without having to travel to a remote trailhead.
Most telescope viewing normally takes place while standing, but we can reposition equipment and prepare a more accessible telescope setup when needed. Step stools are available for smaller guests. If you or someone in your group uses a wheelchair or has other mobility considerations, please contact us before your tour so we can provide the most appropriate arrival instructions and setup.
Breckenridge evenings can become cold quickly, even after a warm summer day. Dress in layers and bring more warmth than you think you will need. During fall and winter, we strongly recommend a heavy coat, hat, gloves, warm footwear, and clothing suitable for snow or icy conditions.
We constantly monitor the weather because clouds, precipitation, wind, and smoke can affect telescope viewing. If conditions may interfere with the program, we will communicate with booked guests and help determine whether to proceed, reschedule, or cancel under our flexible weather policy.
We use red lights during the tour to protect everyone’s night vision. Please avoid white-light flashlights, camera flashes, and bright phone screens while observing.

Arrival and Meetup:
Meet your astronomer at Beaver Run Resort at the scheduled start time. Your confirmation email will contain the current arrival and meeting instructions. Because Beaver Run is a large property, allow enough time to park and reach the meeting location before the tour begins.
Introduction and Twilight Viewing:
The program begins with a welcome and introduction to the telescopes. When bright objects are visible during twilight, we may begin with an early view of the Moon, a planet, or a bright star while everyone becomes familiar with the equipment.
Laser-Guided Sky Tour:
As darkness builds, your astronomer will lead an interactive tour of the night sky. You may learn how to locate the North Star, recognize seasonal constellations, understand the stories behind them, and use the sky for navigation. We will also point out visible planets, satellites, the Milky Way when conditions allow, and anything unexpected passing overhead.
Telescope Exploration:
You’ll then explore the best celestial objects available that evening through several large telescopes. Possible targets include Saturn’s rings, Jupiter and its moons, lunar craters, colorful stars, glittering star clusters, nebulae, and distant galaxies. Every guest will have time at the eyepiece, and those interested can learn how to aim and operate a telescope with help from the astronomer.
Questions and Wrap-Up:
We finish with time for questions, although you are encouraged to ask them throughout the entire experience. Depending on the evening’s schedule, guests may also have an opportunity for a few additional telescope views while we begin packing the equipment.

Our public Breckenridge stargazing tours take place on the Imperial Deck at Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center. The resort is located at the base of Peak 9 and provides a comfortable, convenient setting for exploring the night sky without hiking to a remote observing location.
Breckenridge is also a certified Dark Sky Community, recognizing the town’s efforts to reduce light pollution and protect its mountain nightscape.

What happens if the weather is bad?
We monitor the forecast as your tour approaches. If clouds, precipitation, smoke, or strong winds may prevent a worthwhile program, we will contact booked guests to discuss the conditions and available options. If AstroTours cancels the program, we will help arrange a reschedule or refund according to the applicable booking policy.
What should I wear?
Dress much warmer than the daytime forecast suggests. Breckenridge is at high elevation, and temperatures can fall quickly after sunset. Layers, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and a warm jacket are recommended throughout the year. Bring winter clothing during the colder months.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Yes. Families are welcome, and our astronomers adjust the presentation to the interests and ages of the group. We generally recommend the program for children around age five and older because it is a 1 hour 45 minutes outdoor experience.
What will we see?
